Week 6- Motivating students to learn

After the creation of the Webquest, this week we dealt with another very important tool: The interactive PowerPoint to increase class participation, students interest, curiosity and creating a comfortable atmosphere for the students. My IPP was really simple. It was in the form of a quiz, where the student was supposed to find the right answer from a selection of answers provided. It was a first attempt and it was successful. I am even thinking on how to implement it with my students during the lectures, how to make the lecture more interactive and student-centered.

Honestly this was the first time I used the action buttons and the rest, it was a bit time consuming till I gained some confidence and practice with the buttons, but after that things went better. It is very strange learning some thing new from a program I have been used for more than 5 years until now, sometimes it even make me think what else are we going to discover???

  1. Dear Marsi:
As you did, I spent a lot of time doing my Power Point, but when I finally did it, I felt great, and as you said what else does Donna have on her hands to teach us. This is a very big world with many technical tools that will enhance our students their will to learn.

I also have to say that I have started to work with technology in class, last semester I just used it to have the grades in my computer, now that I have learned how to use them, I’m working with a blog with my students. They feel different; they are always expecting their classmates’ thoughts about what they did in the blog. And for my last project in this course I will be using a blog to develop the listening skill with them.

I congratulate You and everybody in our class. We all are learning and as my students, I feel very motivated and willing to learn.

    Regards Alex

  2. Dear Alex,

You are so right..we are learning a lot. When I began the course, it was more curiosity than necessity to follow the course provided by an American university, but now I realize how good my choice was. So, I am very very grateful to all the people that gave me the chance to learn a lot and help me become a better teacher, learner and even a better person.
